I’m not the same person anymore
When you work on yourself and start understanding yourself. You start to change.
The way you see yourself changes. The way you understand what you’ve been through changes.
You start unpacking all of the shit. You understand why you think the way you think, why you react the way you react, and why you’ve tolerated certain things for so long.
And the people who aren’t on the same journey as you, or haven’t been alongside you. The people who aren’t really, or haven’t been your people- they’re still the same person they’ve always been. They have not changed.
And because of that, they’re still talking to you in the same way, saying the same things, treating you based on the version of you that they’ve always known.
But you’re not that person anymore.
They’re talking to you and saying the same things that used to fly with you…
And you’re just sitting there thinking, no.
You’re not giving them the response they’re used to. You’re not giving in to that people-pleasing part of you anymore.
And they’re looking at you like, What happened to you?
And now they’re left sitting in that discomfort, confused about why you’re not responding the way you always used to.
And let me tell you, there is nothing more satisfying than that.
Because that’s how you know you’ve changed.
There’s finally a measure of it.
It’s one thing to sit there and wonder, am I really changing for the better? are things changing for the better?
But then you encounter the same person, in the same situation, saying the same things they’ve always said to you…
And you realise:
Oh. I’m not the same person anymore.
They’ve been talking to the old version of me.
But she isn’t here anymore.
And honestly, that is sooo fucking satisfying.
Understanding yourself. It really is the biggest superpower ever!
